ipad

I had been having a few issues connecting to my gmail accounts using my ipad.  I kept on getting an error message, saying that the ipad couldn’t connect to imap.gmail.com. After a quick call to the chaps at Apple support, I had my solution, and it was one I hadn’t thought of.

    3)  This will allow you to select the type of email account you wish to set up.  If your account has been failing to connect remove all accounts and start fresh.  Instead of adding gmail or hotmail as you previously did. Select “Microsoft Exchange”.  I know, I know….but it works, so suck it up!

    Awesome, problem solved.

Thank you! I don’t know what an exchange account is or how it differs from a gmail one on my iPad, but your solution worked. I had deleted my account and added it in again as new and the imap message still came up; your recommendations got me through and mail is coming in as before. I really appreciate you taking the time to explain!

Hi Beth and Simon, I’m glad we got your ipad/email issue sorted. This is something I learned from calling apple support. I cannot tell you exactly what the problem was except that gmail servers weren’t responding unless we used the “exchange”settings. Glad that I was able to help.
