After running 2 highly successful events in 2009 and 2010. A group of Apple Distinguished Educators liased with Leigh Academy in Dartford Kent to provide Creativity workshops for the School’s Annual Creativity week.
This year just 12 ADEs travelled to the school from all over the country.
This years theme was “The Heart” My workshop asked students to think about what the Heart meant to them. Was it love and romance, was it family and friends, hobbies and passtimes or was it simply something medical or health related?
Students spent time discussing the meaning of the heart with their peers and used word cloud creation tools to produce a set of colourful lists, as evidence of their brainstorming. They then built a poster in Comiclife using those wordclouds and images that represented the words in the lists.
After Lunch, the Students learned the rudimentry skills of Photoshop, which is no mean feat for 11-14 year olds. They learnt how to set their preferences and workspace to make photoshop personalised to them. They learnt how Photoshop layers work, and how to use and manipulate the History and Animation Palettes. They then made a short animation representing the heart, and exported the animation out of Photoshop as a video.
This video file was then imported into imovie where, titles and sound were added. Students were encouraged to leave feedback using Photobooth to help me evaluate how the sessions had gone.
Here are some examples of the animations and artwork produced.
