Animation Assists Literacy

Animation Assists Literacy

In his work for Longton High CLC students from Heron Cross Primary School in years 5 and 6 successfully complete Animation sessions to assist their literacy projects.

Year 5 students wanted to create a short scene from the “Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

The students built their models using plastacine and existing toys.  They also build their own backdrops on A3 paper.  Phil then showed the students how to use the stop motion software ” I can animate”.

After the initial animation session the children then exported their movies, and edited it using the iMovie software on the Apple Macbooks. The children all enjoyed their work, and the teacher Mrs Sanders was impressed with the engagement and teamwork shown.

The following day  Mr Chubb’s  year 6 students worked on 2d animation.  Again the students created the characters by using paper cutouts with movable limbs.  They then used stills cameras on tripods to film the animation.   We then edited the movie in Imovie and added sound and titles.  Day 3 was used as a recap for the year 6 Students, A group, made up of students who had been on a school trip during the original session, created Human Animations.

We took a series of shots of the children moving around in different ways and then animated them to various effect.
